Staff will be paying an extra $500+ a year.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Frustrated Gosford Hospital staff will be holding a public rally outside the hospital this week to protest the \u2018huge\u2019 increases to the cost of staff carparking in the new multi-storey carpark.<\/p>\n

Last year, it was revealed that prices for parking would be increasing as much as 458% per hour for visitors<\/a> and up to 42% per year for staff members when the new carpark opened.<\/p>\n

The Health Services Union is claiming that health care workers will now have to pay an estimated $1230 per year to park at work \u2013 and increase of up to $512 \u2013 which aligns with the weekly price increase from $13.75 to $23.60.<\/p>\n

The Union is fighting for parking fees to stay at their current prices for both staff and visitors, and for the continued operation of the shuttle bus which runs from the parking area on Showground Road that is scheduled to be closed in four weeks.<\/p>\n

Workers are not only frustrated with the price hike, but also the continued severe shortage of staff parking spaces.<\/p>\n

A Gosford Hospital staff member, who chose not to be named, told the Central Coast Express Advocate <\/em><\/a>that the 300 staff spots already had a five-year waiting list.<\/p>\n

The worker went on to say that for staff working a rotating roster, parking on the streets is often dangerous and there have been many attacks over the last few years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is not enough parking around the streets, and if you are PM staff it is Russian roulette to walk to your car in the dark as many staff have been attacked,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne staff member who recently parked at the tennis courts just had her tyres slashed.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rally has been organised for Wednesday March 13th at 12:30pm and will be held on the lawns outside the Health Services Building.<\/p>\n
