Some prices have tripled.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve been pushing your shopping trolley around the vegetable section of a supermarket in the last few weeks, you might have noticed the price tags are a little higher than they used to be.<\/p>\n

After the recent weather events and disasters, the supply of vegetables has dropped significantly resulting in price hikes on supermarket shelves.<\/p>\n

Simple staples like broccoli are now selling for $8.90 a kilo \u2013 a whopping rise of $5.90 per kilo.<\/p>\n

Other common vegetables have doubled – even tripled – in price, with snow peas and cauliflower doubling in cost from $7 per kilo to $18 per kilo, and green beans skyrocketing from $6 to $25 per kilo.<\/p>\n

The extreme price increase comes due to reduced supply caused by natural disasters across the nation.<\/p>\n

Floods and cyclones affected Queensland, drought hit much of the Australian outback, extreme temperatures peaked in South Australia and Victoria, and bushfires swept through Victoria and Tasmania.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Despite the high prices, Aussie\u2019s are being urged to continue to support farmers during this difficult time.<\/p>\n
