Period.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Frustrated motorists have slammed the NSW government after they released a video demonstrating the legal methods for lane splitting, causing many drivers to lash out saying they\u2019ve \u201cnever seen it done legally\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Lane splitting, otherwise known as lane filtering, is when a motorcyclist switches lanes in between slow or stationary cars, and is most commonly done when cars are stopped at traffic lights.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/2019-02-13_07_57_12-road_rules_nsw_campaign_to_encourage_safe_lane_splitting_angers_motorists.png\" width=\"395\" height=\"251\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The video, which was posted to the NSW Government Facebook page, demonstrates the circumstances when lane splitting is allowed and when it breaks the law.<\/p>\n<p>For a motorcyclist to split lanes, they must have a full motorcycle licence, traffic must be travelling under 30km\/h, and a safe gap must be present between the vehicles sitting in the lanes. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, they must not split lanes around heavy vehicles, if they are travelling in a school zone during school zone hours, or close to the kerb.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/8d3364ba97a9cf2e6b98d3986a96152a.html\" alt=\" NSW Government\/Facebook.\" width=\"393\" height=\"221\" \/><\/p>\n<p>However, despite the manoeuvre being legal, many motorists are frustrated with the laws surrounding lane splitting, calling it \u201cdangerous\u201d and \u201cirresponsible\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt shouldn\u2019t be allowed period. It opens up a can of worms and people abuse this. Plenty of rider\u2019s filter at 70+km\/h,\u201d one Facebook user wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve NEVER seen a single rider filter as per the law.
