Thousands of Coasties have been left with damaged cars as insurance providers struggle with the backlog of claims almost a month after a destructive storm hit the Central Coast.<\/p>\n

The storm, which hit on December 20, saw hail stones the size of golf balls smash through car windows and leave deep dents in bonnets and roofs.<\/p>\n

While many claims were lodged the day of the event, a large amount of these have gone unprocessed, leaving many drivers in the lurch.<\/p>\n

One Saratoga family told the Central Coast Express Advocate<\/em> that they lodged claims for two vehicles hours after the storm, and were reassured that they would be contacted in three days. Two weeks later, the family called the provider again and were given the same message \u2013 someone would contact them within three days. As of 16th January, the family is still waiting for an assessment \u2013 27 days after their claim.<\/p>\n

IAG \u2013 the parent company for providers like NRMA, CGU, Swann Insurance and many more \u2013 said that they received over 43,000 claims after the storm hit, and 4218 of those were just on the Central Coast.<\/p>\n

The hardest hit suburbs were Wamberal with 884 claims, followed by Umina with 804 and Erina with 776.<\/p>\n

IAG Executive general manager of claims Luke Gallagher spoke to the Central Coast Express Advocate to assure Central Coast residents that they aimed to get customers back on their feet and back in their vehicles as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have 11 specialist hail repair sites for customers\u2019 motor vehicles across Sydney, and on the Central Coast at Erina and Lisarow,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough this network of specialist sites, we can assess up to 1,000 vehicles a day.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe encourage customers to contact us to lodge their claim so that we can arrange for their property or vehicle to be assessed and repaired as soon as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, insurance provider Suncorp (parent company to GIO, AAMI, Apia, and Bingle) said that thousands of claims have already been processed thanks to their assessment centres.<\/p>\n

\u201cSuncorp has established two motor vehicle assessment and repair centres in Gosford to streamline the claims process for customers,\u201d the head of motor claims Paul Sofronoff said.<\/p>\n

According to Suncorp, all claims should be processed by early February.<\/p>\n
