Are you still in the dark?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Around 55,000 properties in the Sydney and Central Coast areas are still without power after severe thunderstorms battered the east coast.<\/p>\n

Torrential rain, flooding, and golf-ball sized hail stones savaged the area across the weekend causing fallen trees and broken powerlines.<\/p>\n

Sydney\u2019s north and the south of the Central Coast were the hardest hit along with Parramatta and Campbelltown.<\/p>\n

According to Endeavour Energy and Ausgrid, it might be a few hours or possibly even days before power is completely restored with over 850 electrical issues needing to be repaired before supply can be restored to homes and businesses.<\/p>\n

“This was a devastating storm that caused extensive damage to the electricity network,” Endeavour Energy spokesman Peter Payne said on Sunday in a statement.<\/p>\n

“Many of our customers in the worst affected areas would not have seen damage like this for years.”<\/p>\n

Ausgrid’s Jonathan Hall said the repairs could take a while.<\/p>\n

“Unfortunately, it’s taking time because that does involve in some places putting in new power poles and new power lines and unfortunately that type of repair takes some time,” he told ABC.<\/p>\n

The weather is expected to calm over this week.<\/p>\n
