Fees are set to increase 458%.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Gosford Hospital\u2019s new multistorey carpark was tipped to be the saving grace for the parking crisis plaguing Gosford, but with the release of the exorbitant parking fees, the structure is now being referred to as a \u201cmoney making exercise\u201d.<\/p>\n

In late November, the Central Coast Express Advocate<\/em> obtained a staff email which listed the new parking fees for the carpark. According to the email, prices are set to increase up to 458% with hourly parking skyrocketing from $1.20p\/h to $6.70p\/h.<\/p>\n

Taking into account these new prices, if every spot in the 600-space structure was occupied for 10 hours per day, the government could be making around $40,200 per day or $14.7 million per year.<\/p>\n

The parking structure cost an estimated $35.5 million, however the government only committed $15 million.<\/p>\n

A Central Coast Local Health District spokeswoman confirmed that the increased fees will go towards paying back the $20.5 million deficit. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cCar parking fees are used for both operating and maintenance costs of the Gosford Hospital\u2019s car parks in addition to supporting the operation of the District\u2019s services. Fees from the new multistorey car park will also be used to cover the cost of its construction.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, many members of the public have been left wondering where these funds will go after the car park has been paid off.<\/p>\n

The new structure is set to open in early 2019, with private company SECURE managing the fees.<\/p>\n
