The storms are predicted to hit before the week is out.<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted that the dust storms in the west could spread to the NSW coast, resulting in a storm that could rival the \u2018apocalyptic\u2019 2009 Sydney dust storm. \u00a0<\/p>\n

The BOM is expecting the storm to hit Canberra, with a possibility that it could spread to Sydney if the winds reach gale force levels. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Although the Bureau predicts that the Central Coast won\u2019t be covered in the same dusty haze as Sydney, Central Coast residents with heart and lung conditions are being warned to take extra precautions as there will be an increase of potentially dangerous dust particles.<\/p>\n

Dr Richard Broome from NSW Health says that the large amount of dust particles in the air has the potential to cause serious problems. \u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just want people to remember that the dust can present a health risk, especially for those with heart and lung conditions,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

According to NSW Health, the fine dust particles can irritate lungs and cause problems for those with existing conditions.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople with chronic heart and lung conditions who develop symptoms such as shortness of breath, coughing or wheezing should follow their Asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Action Plan.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf symptoms do not settle, seek medical advice. In case of emergency, always remember to dial triple zero.\u201d<\/p>\n

In the 2009 storm, more than 130 calls were made for help due to difficulty breathing.<\/p>\n
