It could be rolled out by mid-2019.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

In a new policy introduced by the new Opposition Leader Michael Daley all school-aged children in NSW using opal cards would be able to access transport for free under a Labor government.<\/p>\n

In his first major policy since being elected to leadership after the Luke Foley scandal, the scheme would give free travel to all primary and high school students on trains, buses and ferries in order to help alleviate the cost-of-living pressures.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a really simple and practical measure to make life easier for families and it\u2019s a simple one,\u201d Daley said.<\/p>\n

Opposition transport spokeswoman, Jodi McKay said the plan would be rolled out across the Opal network before reaching other systems across NSW.<\/p>\n

The current Opal card would be reinvented to remove the need for a minimum distance requirement between home and school to be eligible for free and discounted travel and would include weekends and holidays.<\/p>\n

The plan will be implemented by mid-2019 should Labor be successful in the March state election.<\/p>\n
