Motorists in Magenta and The Entrance will soon be enjoying safer journeys along Wilfred Barrett Drive, with new work set to commence to widen the road, roll out new rumble strips and centre lines commences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Work is set to focus on a four-kilometre section of Wilfred Barrett Drive between Pelican Beach Road and Wyuna Avenue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The works will see the road widen to include a one-metre-wide central median, as well as a three-metre-wide southbound shoulders and roadside barriers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rumble strips \u2013 which are a road safety feature to alert inattentive drivers of potential danger \u2013 will also be installed along the stretch of road. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The upgrades will also provide right turn lanes into Pelican Beach Road and the car park for the popular Red Gum Trail walking track.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said Wilfred Barrett Drive is a key route and the upgrades will benefit locals \u2013 and boost the economy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWilfred Barrett Drive is a key route connecting The Entrance to Noraville and further to the northern parts of the Central Coast,\u201d Mr Toole said, <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis project will not only ensure the thousands of motorists using it daily get home safely at the end of each day, but it has also generated work for 60 locals and contractors throughout construction.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>
\u201cWe know how fast the Central Coast is growing, which is why the NSW Government is investing in upgrades like this to ensure that our road network is stronger, safer and more reliable for everyone who uses it.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
The upgrades are part of a $22.5 million investment from the NSW Government\u2019s Safer Roads Program, with work set to focus on a four-kilometre section of Wilfred Barrett Drive between Pelican Beach Road and Wyuna Avenue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Works will be carried out from 7 pm to 5 am Sunday to Thursday to reduce the impact on motorists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, there will be some work activities intermittently carried out during the day on weekdays with a reduced speed limit, lane and shoulder closures as well as stop\/slow traffic arrangements in place for the safety of motorists and workers during these hours. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The work is expected to be completed by mid-2022, weather permitting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
