A change.org petition to lobby Central Coast Council to save the beloved Fishermen\u2019s Wharf playground from demolition is gaining momentum.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The petition, which at the time of writing has over 5,000 signatures, is calling on Central Coast Council to enter a \u201cformalised submission period to elicit feedback from the local residents, and delay the immediate demolition of the Woy Woy [Fishermen’s] Wharf Playground\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Up until yesterday afternoon, the Woy Woy playground was facing demolition, but those plans have been halted following community outcry at the decision. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Member for Gosford Lisel Tesch contacted Administrator Rik Hart\u2019s office and got re-assurance from him that Council has halted plans to demolish the Fishermen’s Wharf park until its replacement opens in July.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, Ms Tesch is calling on Council to halt their plans to demolish the high use space completely. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI welcome Mr Hart\u2019s commitment today to stop tomorrow\u2019s demolition however I am demanding that Council end their plans to remove the park altogether \u2013 they\u2019re just plainly wrong on this,\u201d said Ms Tesch,\u00a0
\u201cThe playspace has been a staple of the Woy Woy Peninsula community for years. So many of our local families have fond memories of visiting and playing the park, getting a fish and chip order at Fisherman\u2019s wharf and watching the pelican feeding.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\nMs Tesch said the volume of calls to her office indicates there is demand for two parks in close proximity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCouncil should urgently reconsider this decision because our community was not consulted at any stage. Loads of new young families have contacted my office overnight and have made it very clear that there is a demand for the two parks in close proximity,\u201d MS Tesch said.\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Ms Tesch said she urges community members to write to Council and sign the petition which is available\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
