Central Coast Council has confirmed plans to demolish the beloved Fishermen\u2019s Wharf Playground are officially on hold for further community consultation.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The community has been fighting against the demolition of Fishermen\u2019s Wharf Playground as parts of Central Coast Council\u2019s financial recovery plans. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And this morning, the community won with a spokesperson for Central Coast Council saying the demolition is on hold to allow time for more community consultation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe planned demolition of the playspace at Pelican Park Woy Woy has been put on hold to enable time to further engage with the community around their concerns and provide more detailed information,\u201d a spokesperson said in a statement.\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCouncil understands the community\u2019s concern over the need to remove the play equipment at this site, which doesn\u2019t meet current Australian standards. We acknowledge there are several community questions which will be addressed before further works are undertaken.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The decision comes after much community outcry, with a change.org petition<\/a> gaining almost seven thousand signatures.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A group of Woy Woy locals even took their protest efforts to new heights this morning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A group of local mums noticed that demolition teams had moved in early this morning to install fencing around the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the group is not allowed to protest. Instead, they have taken their allowed outdoor exercise to the play equipment.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The nearby Anderson Park Reserve playspace \u2013 which was set to replace the Fishermen\u2019s Wharf Playspace \u2013 did open over the weekend.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Council says the new playspace is fully fenced new playspace features a multiply climbing unit with double slides and rope climbs, rocker, swing set, voice tubes, twista and balance trail and accessible pathway and softfall \u2013 whilst taking advantage of the shade provided by mature trees within the reserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The change.org petition to save the park is still accepting signatures and can be found\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
