NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has confirmed lockdown on Greater Sydney and the Central Coast will continue for another week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The current lockdown will be extended for another week until 11:59 pm on Friday, July 16. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The same restrictions currently in place across both Greater Sydney including the Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Wollongong and Shellharbour will remain in place until this time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Face-to-face learning will resume in regional NSW when school returns on Tuesday, July 13. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Learning will be online for schools and students in Greater Sydney (including the Central Coast) from Tuesday, July 12 for four days but schools will remain open for students of essential workers who need them, and no child will be turned away from school. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On this, Ms Berejiklian said they Government wants to reduce mobility. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“In relation to Greater Sydney, the reason why we took the decision around schools not resuming face-to-face learning next week is not because schools aren\u2019t a safe place, they are a safe place, but what we really need to do in Greater Sydney is reduce mobility,” Ms Berejiklian said, <\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
All students will return to the classroom on Monday, July 19. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ms Berejiklian also said she understands the announcement is frustrating for Central Coast and Shellharbour residents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I appreciate communities like the Central Coast, or Shellharbour or Wollongong, who may have had a number of cases in the past little while but they will be particularly frustrated they have to do another week,” Ms Berejiklian said,<\/p>
“This is really to prevent mobility. For essential items or work people are still moving. It is really easy to transmit the very from up with community to another.” <\/p>
“We would much rather all of us do the hard work now to give us the best chance of having a normal life between when we exit the lockdown and when we get the vaccine accessible to our population.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
This is based on health advice from the Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant and will assist NSW Health\u2019s efforts to contain the delta strain according to the statement from the Premier. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It comes as the state records 27 cases of locally acquired COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours to 8 pm last night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Ms Berejiklian, \u201conly 13 of those were already in isolation. Seven were in isolation for part of their infectious period and seven, we understand, were in isolation for all of their infectious period\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n
