Calling all Picassos because entries for the Central Coast\u2019s premier art award \u2013 the Gosford Art Prize \u2013 has officially opened. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Artists from across Australia are being invited to submit works for the prize, with a record-breaking 900 artists competing for the $25,000 prize pool in 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
More artists than ever before are expected to submit works this year, with Central Coast Council Director Community and Recreation Services, Julie Vaughan, saying the Gosford Art Prize is a cultural highlight for the region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe awards attract more and more local artists each year and it is also exciting to see increasing participation from artists across NSW and indeed interstate,\u201d Ms Vaughan said,\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur region is a growing artistic hub and we encourage artists from near and far to submit up to two works. The Gosford Art Prize culminates in an exhibition of finalists’ works at Gosford Regional Gallery \u2013 a must see experience that attracts over 12,000 people, with 40 percent of those being visitors to the Coast.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Council Administrator Rik Hart echoed Ms Vaughan, saying the quality and breadth of works featured in the Gosford Art Prize have made the awards a Central Coast institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cArt is more important than ever and Council is thrilled to offer an art prize and exhibition that delivers for the Coast both culturally and economically,\u201d Mr Hart said,\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLast year\u2019s entries were truly outstanding and we can\u2019t wait to see what our creative communities have in stall for us for 2021.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Artists who submit their works are eligible to compete in the following categories: <\/p>\n\n\n\n
- First Prize \u2013 $15,000<\/li>
- Second Prize \u2013 $5,000<\/li>
- Aboriginal Artist Prize \u2013 $2,500<\/li>
- Gosford Ceramics Prize \u2013 $2,000<\/li>
- Highly Commended \u2013 $1,000 (two prizes)<\/li>
- Viewer\u2019s Choice Award \u2013 $500<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n
All artworks for the Gosford Art Prize this year will need to be submitted online. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Entries are now open and close on August 22, 201 with the Gosford Art Prize Exhibition set to be held at the Gosford Regional Gallery from September 25 to November 28, 2021. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
