The Olyroos are off to a flying start at the Tokyo Olympic Games and it\u2019s all thanks to Central Coast local Lachie Wales! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Olyroos kicked off their Olympic campaign last night, taking on Argentina in Group C and winning 2-0. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Former Central Coast Mariners player Lachie Wales open the scoring in the 14th<\/sup> minute, with Melbourne City\u2019s Marco Tilio following with another goal in the 80th<\/sup> minute. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The win has placed the Aussie side at the top of the table, with Olyroos (and former Mariners) coach Graham Arnold declaring before the game the side would shock the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI expect these boys to do something special. They\u2019re ready to shock the world and put in some great performances for the country of Australia,\u201d Arnold told reporters.\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n \u201cIn the past, over the last 20 years, it was seen as a success to just making the Olympics. But we’re not here to make up the numbers. We’re here to show the rest of the world what we can do and what I expect we will do.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n Terrigal-born Lachie has previously said reaching the Olympics is the realisation of a dream and proof that the sacrifices his family have made during his career are worth it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt means everything. With all the sacrifices my parents, my brothers, my sister and my partner have made for me over the last 22 years, it means as much to them as it does to me,\u201d Lachie previously told socceroos.com.au<\/a>,<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cTo put on that shirt, you know you’re representing all those people that have supported you and tried to get you to this point.
