While he was addressing the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.nsw.gov.au\/Infectious\/covid-19\/Pages\/case-locations-and-alerts.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">current situation in NSW<\/a>, his advice is applicable to all states and stages of lockdown or quarantine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Wright explained that people need to be a lot kinder to themselves, because people are under extreme stress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cThere are some fairly simple and straightforward things that we all need to keep front of mind on a daily basis in order to manage these stresses, keep track of how it is affecting us and the people around us and also to access help if needed.\u00a0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>So in simple terms, what people need to do is to have a plan to manage their stress and to monitor it and review it on a regular basis,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aside from regular self-check-ins, Dr Wright advises that structure is created, re-assessed periodically and maintained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe simple things we can all do is firstly have a plan\u00a0to create structure in your lives, particularly in a lockdown. Many of us have lost that structure and it is important to recreate it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cThat includes having regular daily exercise of some kind, having contact with the people who are important in your life and talking about meaningful things including how they are coping and how you are coping.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chief Psychiatrist also advises that individuals monitor things like diet, sleep and alcohol intake as well as setting goals every day and reviewing them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNone of us always execute the perfect plan, but it\u2019s important to review it and renew it on a daily basis. If things are not working, and the signs of things not working include difficulties with sleep, difficulties with concentration, feeling unduly fatigued, feeling overwhelmed, irritable, or consuming too much alcohol, and if any of those things are happening either to you or&nbsp; people around you, you should make it a subject of consideration.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhat can I do to change how I am approaching the day or do I need help? Ask people if they are OK.
