{"id":29761,"date":"2021-08-20T11:38:01","date_gmt":"2021-08-20T01:38:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/?p=29761"},"modified":"2021-08-20T12:23:20","modified_gmt":"2021-08-20T02:23:20","slug":"new-outdoor-mask-rule-introduced-for-nsw-new-permit-system-to-come-into-effect-from-midnight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/home\/new-outdoor-mask-rule-introduced-for-nsw-new-permit-system-to-come-into-effect-from-midnight\/","title":{"rendered":"New Outdoor Mask Rule Introduced For NSW &#038; New Permit System To Come Into Effect From Midnight"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A new permit system and additional measures regarding outdoor mask wearing for regional NSW \u2013 including the Central Coast \u2013 will come into effect over the next few days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We\u2019ve broken it down into sections because there is a lot of information to digest today\u2019s press conference, but if ever in doubt, then be sure to check the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.nsw.gov.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NSW Health website<\/a> for the latest and most up to date information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br><strong>COVID-19 Update \u2013 August 20:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>NSW Health has confirmed the state has recorded 644 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of these locally acquired cases, 134 are linked to a known case or cluster \u2013 107 are household contacts and 27 are close contacts \u2013 and the source of infection for 508 cases is under investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">NSW recorded 644 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm. <\/p>\n<p>Of these locally acquired cases, 134 are linked to a known case or cluster \u2013 107 are household contacts and 27 are close contacts \u2013 and the source of infection for 508 cases is under investigation. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/cdIcVbmw2p\">pic.twitter.com\/cdIcVbmw2p<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 NSW Health (@NSWHealth) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NSWHealth\/status\/1428523118985814017?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 20, 2021<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three cases were reported for the Central Coast Local Health District (LHD) in the 24 hours to 8pm last night. A further three cases were also reported for the Hunter New England Local Health District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement, the Central Coast Local Health District has confirmed that three additional local residents have tested positive to COVID-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One case is linked to a previously identified case and previously identified exposure sites on the Central Coast and one case is part of the Lake Munmorah Public School cluster, and was in isolation while infectious. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The third case was not on the Central Coast while infectious and the source of their infection is under investigation. This person is being cared for in hospital in Sydney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br><strong>Central Coast Separated From Greater Sydney:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro has confirmed at the end of yesterday\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/live\/?v=267093341597041&amp;ref=notif&amp;notif_id=1629334390715660&amp;notif_t=live_video\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">daily COVID update<\/a>&nbsp;from the NSW Government that from now on during the COVID-19 crisis, the Central Coast will be treated as regional NSW, not as a part of Greater Sydney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>\u201cAll workers leaving Greater Sydney will now need a permit, and further to that, they will need to be Covid tested for the previous seven days before they actually go to regional and rural New South Wales,\u201d Mr Barilaro said,<\/em><br><br><strong><em>\u201cTo make it easy, we\u2019re redefining Greater Sydney and excluding Shellharbour and the Central Coast. So from here onwards, the Central Coast and Shellharbour will be treated as regional.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><br><br><em>\u201cIf you\u2019re travelling from Sydney to the Central Coast or to Shellharbour, you will need, of course, a permit and that is at the key of making sure that we simplify it, make it easier for governments and making sure that for police surveillance and the ability for police to act on it,\u201d the Deputy Premier said.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch confirmed the official separation will take place, releasing the following statement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>\u201cToday the NSW Government has re-classified the Central Coast region in the Public Health Orders.<\/em><br><br><em>Decisions about COVID-19 rules in the Central Coast and Shellharbour local government areas (LGAs) will now be consistent with the remainder of regional NSW and separate to Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains and Wollongong.<\/em><br><br><em>Due to the Central Coast\u2019s 28 active COVID-19 cases there will be no short-term changes to the current rules.<\/em><br><br><em>However, being treated separately to Greater Sydney, the Blue Mountains and Wollongong improves our region\u2019s chances of coming out of lockdown earlier. This also means that local schools will be able to resume face-to-face learning sooner. It is everyone\u2019s responsibility to continue to follow the rules, get tested and book vaccination appointments.<\/em><br><br><em>Today the NSW Government has also strengthened the new permit system.<\/em><br><br><em>Anyone from Greater Sydney (including authorised workers from the LGAs of concern) who needs to travel more than 50 kilometres from Greater Sydney for work purposes will require a permit. Sydneysiders who travel for work purposes must also have a COVID-19 test every seven days.<\/em><br><br><em>Central Coast residents travelling in regional NSW will not require a permit or a COVID-19 test.<\/em><br><br><em>Once the new Public Health Order is written, signed and gazetted, permit applications will be made available on the Service NSW website.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br><strong>New Outdoor Mask Rule Introduced For NSW:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>From 12.01am Monday, 23 August, mask wearing will be mandatory when outside your home, except when exercising for the whole of NSW until at least August 28. &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On this, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian had the following to say at the daily COVID update:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cI also want to stress that from Monday midnight, unless you\u2019re exercising masks should be worn outdoors everywhere across New South Wales,\u201d Ms Berejiklian said,<\/p><p>\u201cOur concern is that when people are walking past a group of people or accidentally bumping into people that, that can cause that fleeting contact can cause transmission, and even when you\u2019re exercising, you need to have the mask unless you\u2019re doing some strenuous exercise.\u201d<\/p><p>\u201cAnd you happen to come into contact with anybody else the mask needs to be put on your face.\u201d<\/p><p>\u201cAnd this also for police, it makes it easy for them to make sure that everybody is sticking to the rules so this mask-wearing outdoors unless you\u2019re exercising.\u201d<\/p><p>\u201cThis applies to every single citizen across New South Wales, whether you live in Sydney, whether you live in the bush, everybody has to respect that rule,\u201d Ms Berejiklian said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br><strong>A New Permit System Will Come Into Effect From Midnight:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, new permit system for some travel between Greater Sydney and regional NSW \u2013 including the Central Coast \u2013 will come into effect from 12:01am tomorrow (Saturday, August 21).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the updated Public Health Order, the following people travelling from Greater Sydney to regional NSW will require a permit:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Anyone from Greater Sydney (including authorised workers from the LGAs of concern) who needs to travel more than 50km from Greater Sydney for work purposes, noting the existing requirement for such workers to have had a COVID test in the previous seven days. &nbsp;<\/li><li>People travelling to a second home outside Greater Sydney. This is now only allowed if you are using the home for work accommodation or if the home requires urgent maintenance and repairs. If so, only one person may travel.<\/li><li>People inspecting a potential new residence, but only if they have a genuine intention to relocate as soon as practicable (no investment properties)<\/li><li>People who are permanently relocating.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>People are permitted to leave their homes to facilitate custody arrangements for access to, and contact between, parents and children under the age of 18 who do not live in the same household.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Permit applications will be made available on the Service NSW website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the new Public Health Orders, Greater Sydney will no longer include the Central Coast and Shellharbour, with people travelling to both regions under the above reasons now requiring a permit to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller had the following to say as the permit system is still not available on the Service NSW website. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>&#8220;The permit system will come up at least by midnight tonight. If they are not available, and you have a lawful purpose, you can still travel, will not take action against you for the payment but it is an offence today to leave Greater Sydney, to go to regional NSW unless you have a reasonable excuse. Permits give people greater certainty and it really helps please. Try to enforce something with 8 million people and it helps us put resources in the right place,&#8221; Commissioner Fuller said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br><strong>New Rules Introduced For Greater Sydney (Excluding The Central Coast):<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A raft of new rule shave been introduced for the 12 LGAs of concern in metropolitan Sydney \u2013 which now excludes the Central Coast. From 12.01am Monday, 23 August the following additional rules will apply for residents and businesses in the LGAs of concern:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Curfews will be introduced from 9pm to 5am (except for authorised workers, emergencies or medical care) to help reduce the movement of young people;<\/li><li>Outdoor exercise is limited to one hour per day;<\/li><li>The following retail premises must close except for click and collect: garden centres and plant nurseries, office supplies, hardware and building supplies, landscaping material supplies, rural supplies, and pet supplies (tradespeople are allowed to shop in-store where relevant); and<\/li><li>All exams and other education or professional development related activities will move online, not including the HSC.
