A trio of nine-year-old nippers from Avoca Surf Lifesaving Club are being praised for their bravery and efforts recusing a man late last month.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nine-year-old\u2019s Matilda Coleman, Violette Wolters and Matilda Harvey were out getting exercise on their nipper boards on Wednesday, September 22 when they heard a man calling out to them from deeper waters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The girls went to investigate and see if they could help the man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe went to see if he was okay and he asked if we would stay with him,\u201d Matilda Coleman said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe let him hold onto our boards, but we were getting swept out to sea in a rip,\u201d Matilda Harvey added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe man was calm, though, so we weren\u2019t panicking.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The girls used their knowledge they\u2019ve learnt over the years as Nippers, reading the direction of the rip and watching for waves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Surf Lifesaving NSW said the two Matilda\u2019s caught a wave in to get more help while Violet stayed out the back to assist the man in trouble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDad (Stuart) was swimming out to us at this stage, so we met with him, I gave him my board and I doubled in on Matilda\u2019s board,\u201d Matilda Harvey said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen Stuart got to me, he told me to paddle back in,\u201d Violette said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man escaped the incident without any issues with the help of Stuart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trio and Stuart also managed to help a second man, also struggling in the rip, to be assisted back into shore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAfterwards me and the girls were riding our skateboards still not believing that we basically saved someone\u2019s life,\u201d Violette said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
