Former NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet has been elected as the new NSW Premier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Government Whip Adam Crouch made the announcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGood morning everyone, as the government wet I can confirm that the New South Wales Parliamentary Liberal Party have met this morning to fill a vacancy for leader,\u201d Mr Crouch said,<\/p>
\u201cA ballot has been held and I can declare that the honourable Dominic Perrottet has been elected to the leadership position of the New South Wales Liberal Parliamentary party and they can also confirm that the deputy position has been awarded to the honourable Stuart Ayres. Thank you all.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Mr Perrottet received 39 votes whilst Planning Minister Rob Stokes \u2013 who was the only other candidate to nominate \u2013 received 5 votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Central Coast Labor MPs – Member for Gosford Liesl Tesch, Member for Wyon David Harris, Member for The Entrance David Mehan and Member for Swansea Yasmin Catley – have released a statement asking for the NSW Government to refocus on NSW and “end the chaos of the past few days”. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“At one of the most critical times in the State\u2019s history, during a health pandemic and economic uncertainty we have seen the Premier, the Deputy Premier and a Senior Minister step down causing massive instability at a time when cool heads and a steady hand is needed,” the Labor MPs said in a statment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe will have to wait to see if this tired Liberal State Government will be reenergized by this change of leadership, but much of the Government\u2019s direction was already determined by Dominic Perrottet in his role as Treasurer,\u201d said Mr Harris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Gladys Berejiklian\u2019s departure is another blow to the voice of women in parliaments across Australia. The government is now down to 28% female representation in NSW Parliament with no women putting up the hand for the leadership role,\u201d said Liesl Tesch<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The news comes after an interesting weekend in NSW politics, with Deputy Premier John Barilaro and Transport Minister Andrew Constance both resigning, also forcing by-elections for their southern NSW seats. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Former Transport Minister Constance announced his resignation over the weekend he would be quitting State Parliament to make the switch to Federal Politics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Mr Barilaro announced his departure yesterday morning, saying the public life has taken it’s toll on him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Ten and a half years is a long time in politics,” Mr Barilaro\u00a0said, <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Five years is a very long time as Deputy Premier, I’ve taken it seriously and given everything I possibly could have. I turn 50 in November \u2026\u00a0maybe a mid-life crisis. But I’m thinking about what’s next and I’ll take time out. But I genuinely won’t be running for office.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A ballot for Mr Barliaro’s leadership position will be held by the NSW National Party tomorrow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
