Get ready to be blown away Central Coast<\/a>, because the patches of brilliant bioluminescence have returned to the Central Coast once again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Central Coast Council<\/a>, Noctiluca Bloom has returned with a pink murkiness spotted in the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pink murkiness is how this common algae appears during the day, but at night, it really shines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At night, bioluminescence makes the marine species appear as an electric blue colour, looking like a blue fire on the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How does this happen? Well, according to National Geographic<\/em><\/a>, bioluminescence is light produced by a chemical reaction within a living organism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While it has been compared to a blue fire, according to National Geographic <\/em>it generates minimal heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBioluminescence is a \u2018cold light\u2019, which means less than 20% of the light generates thermal radiation, or heat. Most bioluminescent organisms are found in the ocean. These bioluminescent marine species include fish, bacteria, and jellies,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Central Coast Council has confirmed that Noctiluca Bloom is \u201cgenerally not considered dangerous though it can cause skin and eye irritation in some people\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to 7News<\/a>, you can currently spot the marine species at Patonga, Gwandalan and Sandy Beach at Summerland Point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
