Get ready to be blown away because the owners of the 120-hectare parcel of land which encompasses Old Sydney Town have lodged plans to transform the site into an Australian first tourism precinct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first stage of the proposed redevelopment \u2013 which covers around 20% of the site \u2013 is set to include an artificial surf wave attraction, local agricultural-based food and beverage outlets, artist workshops and studios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Short-stay accommodation is set to be available under the proposed new development, alongside an Indigenous Cultural Centre recognising the Indigenous caretakers of the Central Coast and extended car parking facilities for the Australian Reptile Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sydney-based consortium behind the proposed redevelopment has also revealed plans for later stages of this cultural, entertainment and tourism precinct which will see Old Sydney Town used as a cultural theme park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cultural theme park will see some of the former heritage attraction\u2019s original buildings become the hub of a key attraction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This will join a performing arts area, entertainment and attractions, retail and exhibition facilities, further food and beverage outlets, water-based activities, a hotel and short-stay accommodation and residential development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

World Culture Tourism Village (WCTV) purchased the site in 2018, with a spokesperson for the company confirming said that they want to redevelop the 120-hectare site into a unique, 14 element tourism hub. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen we purchased the site, to our knowledge we were the only prospective buyer who considered redevelopment from a tourism perspective, as we had a strong vision for its tourism potential,\u201d a WCTV spokesperson said,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur vision is not to deliver a single large attraction like a theme park but to create a unique tourism hub bringing together a range of leisure-time experiences.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will benefit from the location, with the site\u2019s proximity to Sydney and the Australian Reptile Park being an established attraction, our precinct-based business model and the diversified elements will attract visitors year-round,\u201d the WCTV spokesperson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The consortium says the proposed re-development would be a major opportunity for the Central Coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe reimagining and redevelopment of this site represents a compelling and unique opportunity for the Central Coast, with significant investment, major new employment opportunities and delivering a major boost to the social and economic infrastructure for the region,\u201d a spokesperson said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The consortium said the Somersby based Australian Reptile Park would be improved during the redevelopment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cImportantly, the current proposal seeks to not only maintain but also improve the Australian Reptile Park to create a unique Australian learning and recreational centre with improved amenities, conservation and tourism experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WCTV said they are hoping to receive planning approval in the coming months with initial projects to get underway in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
