{"id":34200,"date":"2021-12-06T10:07:30","date_gmt":"2021-12-05T23:07:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/?p=34200"},"modified":"2021-12-06T10:07:33","modified_gmt":"2021-12-05T23:07:33","slug":"new-hop-on-hop-off-ferry-service-set-to-be-trialled-in-lake-macquarie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/home\/new-hop-on-hop-off-ferry-service-set-to-be-trialled-in-lake-macquarie\/","title":{"rendered":"New Hop-On, Hop-Off Ferry Service Set To Be Trialled In Lake Macquarie"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A new, fast ferry service is set to be trialled in Lake Macquarie, shaving almost 30 minutes off travel times between key lakeside suburbs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new service is set to ferry passengers between Speers Point, Booragul, Toronto, Wangi Wangi and Belmont starting with a soft launch this Saturday (December 12).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 120-passenger ferry will see one-way tickets between any two stops cost $13 for adults, with return tickets $26 while an all-day, hop-on, hop-off pass will set you back $30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each stop has been selected for their variety and diversity of attractions, including cafes and outdoor activities within walking distance of each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The return of a ferry service to the Lake Macquarie region will also help commuters, with the ferry expected to transport passengers between Belmont and Wangi Wangi in just 12-15 minutes compared to 40 minutes in the car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new service is the brainchild of Peter Hanrahan, Managing Director of Lake Macquarie Cruises and Nova Cruises, who hopes it will encourage tourists and residents alike to explore the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe started cruises on the lake in 2018 and from that we\u2019ve just noticed the growing demand,\u201d Mr Hanrahan said,<br><br>\u201cAttending tourism meetings, there is constant talk of a lack of connectivity, and with so much to do all around the lake we thought there was the opportunity for a quick link between all the sites.\u201d<br><br>\u201cAnd then with COVID, we\u2019ve had this real boom in domestic travellers, particularly from Sydney, so I think it\u2019s a great time to launch to capitalise on that influx that we\u2019re all expecting,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Hanrahan confirmed Warners Bay was considered but the bay is too shallow to allow for access for a public ferry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new <a href=\"https:\/\/lakemacferry.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lake Mac Ferry<\/a> will run initially as a six-month trial, with the possibility of expanding the service if the demand meets expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The normal timetable will commence on January 1, 2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Listen via the Star 104.5 Player, download it now via the <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/au\/app\/star-104-5-central-coast\/id1068731232\"><em>App Store<\/em><\/a><em> or <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=au.com.star1045\"><em>Google Play<\/em><\/a><em> and take Star 104.5 wherever you go.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Images:&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>By Bek Lougher<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SEE MORE:&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/home\/get-ready-to-make-a-splash-cause-there-is-a-massive-water-park-coming-to-lake-macquarie-in-2023\/\">Get Ready To Make A Splash \u2018Cause There Is A Massive Water Park Coming To Lake Macquarie in 2023<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new, fast ferry service is set to be trialled in Lake Macquarie, shaving almost 30 minutes off travel times between key lakeside suburbs.
