Central Coast Council has responded to community feedback from the Mountain Bike Feasibility Study Discussion Paper and is now planning to move towards more sustainable mountain biking practices across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In case you missed it, earlier this year Central Coast Council launched the Mountain Bike Feasibility Study Discussion Paper for public exhibition following the rise in popularity of the sport across the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The community responded, asking Council to respond to the increasing construction of unauthorised trails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Council was also asked through the community feedback to introduce more dedicated trails to meet the growing local demand and growth in eco-tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Central Coast Council moved last night (December 14) to implement the development of a Mountain Biking Plan for the Central Coast and to continue the education, enforcement and trail closures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Current Council Administrator Rik Hart said the Mountain Bike Feasibility Study Discussion Paper was important in identifying the concerns of those in the community regarding balancing the protection of the environment with the growing popularity of the sport and the benefits it can bring to the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCouncil recognises the positive benefits mountain biking can have on the health and wellbeing of many groups within the community,\u201d Mr Hart said,<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is important however that as a community we look to reduce the number of unauthorised trails that can potentially compromise natural environments and heritage sites\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI believe this is something we can achieve by working toward implementing more sustainable mountain biking practices, whilst still encouraging locals to participate in the sport,\u201d said Mr Hart.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Central Coast Council has also asked for a further report on the building of dirt jumps on Council owned land, focusing on the feasibility of doing so alongside associated issues such as health, safety and environmental factors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
