Sex and The City <\/em>creator Michael Patrick King has revealed there was initially a different story arc for Stanford Blatch in the \u201cAnd Just Like That\u2026<\/em>\u201d reboot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In \u201cAnd Just Like That\u2026<\/em>\u201d Stanford makes a sudden, off-screen departure shortly after Big\u2019s death, leaving behind a letter for Carrie revealing he is moving to Tokyo to manage a TikTok star.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anthony shows up at Carrie’s apartment shortly afterwards and reveals Stanford also left him, asking him for a divorce in a note.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But that arc only came after actor Willie Garson unexpectedly passed aged 57 away from pancreatic cancer in September 2021 during filming.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

King revealed in an interview with Variety<\/em><\/a>, <\/em>Stanford\u2019s arc in the Sex and the City<\/em> reboot would\u2019ve seen him re-evaluating his life after a midlife crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe was in all 10 episodes. Before I knew that Willie was sick and couldn\u2019t complete it, Stanford was going to have a midlife crisis,\u201d King told Variety,<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cStanford\u2019s character always had a borderline career as a manager, and we were like going to explore the fact that it wasn\u2019t a real career. It was going to be Carrie and him, feeling the shifts,\u201d said King.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And as for Stanford and Anthony? Well, their split was probably always going to happen according to King.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnthony and him were probably going to have split anyway. Then we would keep both of them in, and everybody would be relieved that they were divorced because it was not pleasant for anybody,\u201d King said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut there was a series of really fun, flirty, hilarious confidante scenes with Carrie that I loved. That old, old, very specific chemistry that Carrie and Stanford have, which is based totally on the uniqueness of Willie and Sarah Jessica\u2019s history.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

King revealed he didn\u2019t want to flirt with the idea of keeping Stanford alive following Garson\u2019s sad death last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLife and death is one thing in fiction: When it\u2019s real, it\u2019s not funny or cute. I didn\u2019t want to even flirt narratively with cute business about where he is. I knew the audience would never invest in it, because they knew he was never coming back,\u201d King said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
