Batten down the hatches Central Coast because a severe weather warning and a minor flood warning has been issued for our region for the coming days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The good folk at the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) are currently tracking a deepening low off the coast of Northern NSW, which is expected to drift southward parallel to the coast on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This low is expected to rapidly deepen into an East Coast Low in response to an amplifying upper trough and low and move onto the Central Coast, Hunter and Metropolitan coasts tonight (March 1) or early Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But the BOM says uncertainty exists around its exact timing and where its most significant impacts will occur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, one thing they are sure of is there may be heavy rainfall which may lead to flash flooding across the Central Coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Locally intense rainfall leading to dangerous and life-threatening is possible with thunderstorms with six-hourly rainfall totals in excess of 200 mm possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Damaging wind gusts with peak gusts in excess of 90 km\/h may develop in the warning area from Wednesday, most likely over the coast and elevated terrain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Locally destructive wing gusts with peak gusts in excess of 125 km\/h are also possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With all of that possible and following the tragic flooding in the NSW North Coast suburb of Lismore, authorities are warning us to prepare now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The State Emergency Service (SES) has issued a minor flood warning for the Central Coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SES is expecting low-lying areas next to watercourses could be inundated and minor roads may be closed and low-level bridges may be submerged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In urban areas inundation may affect some backyards and buildings below the floor level as well as bicycle and pedestrian paths. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
