The Australian Reptile Park has issued a warning to local residents as the clean up after the rain begins that Funnel-Web Spiders are out and about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After torrential rain and widespread flooding devastated much of Australia for the past few weeks, the Reptile Park has reported a surge in the terrifying arachnid in people\u2019s homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And they are expecting more as flood-affected Australians across the state begin to repair and restore their homes after damaging storms and floods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Head Reptile & Spider Keeper, Jake Meney, said they are receiving more and more reports each day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re receiving more and more reports of funnel-webs being found in homes as they seek refuge from the water and we\u2019re urging the public to be on the lookout and know what to do if you find one in your home,\u201d Meney said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAn increase of funnel-web activity in homes means there\u2019s a higher risk of getting bitten and needing antivenom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meney said the Australian Reptile Park is encouraging responsible adults to catch any wandering Funnel-Web Spiders they come across for the Park\u2019s lifesaving antivenom program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why it\u2019s so important to learn and refresh your knowledge on how to safely catch a funnel-web to assist our milking program and on funnel-web spider first aid,\u201d Meney said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The Australian Reptile Park is encouraging responsible adults to catch wandering Sydney Funnel-Web Spiders safely and asking for any collected spiders to be brought to the Park or one of the participating drop off locations to contribute to the lifesaving anti-venom program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
