Double demerits will also be in place.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities will be targeting dangerous behaviours such as speeding, mobile phone use, not wearing seatbelts, and driving under the influence \u2013 all of which carry heavy penalties.<\/p>\n<p>During Operation Slow Down, speeding could cost you the loss of your licence and fines of up to $3762, while using your mobile phone will result in the loss of 10 demerit points and up to $457 in fines.<\/p>\n<p>If you or any of your passengers are caught not wearing a seatbelt, you\u2019ll lose 6 points and receive a fine of $344, while driving under the influence could result in licence disqualification, a $5,500 fine and a possible 2-year prison term.<\/p>\n<p>The operation officially kicks off at 12.01am on Friday 4th October and will run until 11.59am on Monday 7th October.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>SEE ALSO:<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/articles\/new-aussie-dollar-coins-feature-zooper-doopers-meat-pies-and-quokkas\">New Aussie dollar coins to feature Zooper Doopers and meat pies<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>Written by Kate Stevens<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Images: Getty<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Published: 3rd October 2019\u00a0<\/em><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stay safe, guys!
