The Australian Reptile Park<\/a> has unveiled an exciting new exhibition featuring their Komodo Dragon hatchlings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Australian-first exhibition is located in the Lost World of Reptiles exhibition and is home to the only place in the country where you can see hatchling Komodo Dragons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Komodo Dragon hatchlings were born approximately two months ago at the Reptile Park under the watchful eyes of Australian Reptile Park keepers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Australian Reptile Park Head of Reptiles Jake Meney has been with the Komodo Dragon hatchlings every step of the way and says he can\u2019t wait for visitors to the park to get to know them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWorking with these dragons for the last two months has been incredible. Even at this size, they\u2019ve got all the intelligence, attitude and inquisitiveness of an adult dragon,\u201d Meney said, \u201cI can\u2019t wait for our visitors to come and get to know them as well!\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

At this stage, only three of the young Komodo Dragons<\/a> are set to be introduced to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trio has passed their latest health checks with flying colours according to Meney. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen they hatched, the dragons all weighed in between 112g-116g. Now, they\u2019ve all gained around eight to 12 grams each, indicating that they are in perfect health,\u201d Meney said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBy the time they\u2019re about a year old, they should weigh around one kilogram and measure almost one metre in length,\u201d said Mr Meney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOnce the dragons have reached 12 months of age, we\u2019ll commence training for them to walk in the main park area to meet visitors, just like their parents do,\u201d Mr Meney said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The ongoing health and development of the Komodo Dragon hatchlings mean there are positive signs for the ongoing breeding program and more importantly, the Komodo Dragon species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Presently, captive breeding is not needed for the wild population according to the Reptile Park, however building captive populations is imperative, in case a sudden decline is seen in the wild.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
