You\u2019ve read the headline correctly, now let us confirm the glorious news: IKEA<\/a> is indeed opening a Newcastle store soon with an Australian first twist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The flatpack giant sneakily confirmed the news in May, saying they will be opening the first IKEA Planning Studio in Northwest Melbourne before the end of the year with \u201can additional location looking to be secured in Newcastle, which will be a first for the NSW city.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Newcastle location will also be a Planning Studio, which is a brand new concept from IKEA and won\u2019t be like your traditional store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Instead, the Planning Studio will be a space where customers can plan and order complex home furnishings products and services such as kitchens, wardrobes and console units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Planning Studio will have a collection point close by where customers will be able to collect their products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, in some bad news for the Swedish meatball lovers amongst us, there will be \u201cno immediate articles and no food on-site\u201d as the main focus is on assisting customers to create their dream home furnishing solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mirja Viinanen, CEO of IKEA Australia said convenience is at the heart of this strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe goal for our expansion is simple: we will be where the many people are, offering more people the ability to choose when, where, and how they want to engage with IKEA. Convenience is at the heart of our strategy,\u201d said Viinanen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe will continue to transform and test new formats like the new Planning Studios to be able to meet our customers where it is convenient for them, and we are constantly researching where this need is the greatest to inform our expansion strategy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no confirmation yet on the location of Newcastle\u2019s IKEA but watch this space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
