You read the headline correctly, now let us confirm this fantastic news: the Central Coast Mariners<\/a> are provisionally set to enter the Liberty A-League Women\u2019s competition from next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Central Coast Mariners confirmed in a statement they\u2019ve been granted a provisional licence by the Australian Professional Leagues, with the club ready to enter the competition in the 2023\/24 season pending the approval of the Football Australia Board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mariners are focusing on producing a team which focuses on creating a \u201ca vibrant and exciting team that harnesses the core values\u201d the club have established over the past 17 years. They also  confirmed they will announce the Women\u2019s Head Coach before January 2023 and make the first signing prior to June 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The club will use the next 12 months to ensure everything is ready to go when they play their first match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the meantime, the Mariners will continue to work with Central Coast Stadium to bring games to the coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mariners CEO Shaun Mielekamp said the news has been years in the making for the club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis step has been many years in the planning for us. What I am most excited about is what this will bring to our community and how the match day experience will be something very special for every football fan to attend,\u201d Mielekamp said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI know that this will excite the existing fanbase of female footballers who I know will turn up to not only see some great talented players, but also to be a part of something very special for the Central Coast.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

New Mariners chairman Richard Pell said the team will be competitive from the first whistle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no doubt that women\u2019s sport is on a massive growth trajectory right now in Australia, and it\u2019s finally heading towards getting the recognition that these talented athletes deserve, so I\u2019m thrilled that the Central Coast Mariners have the opportunity to contribute to that,\u201d Pell said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
