An evacuation order remains in place for residents around Tuggerah and Budgewoi Lakes, which are expected to peak at a major flood level later today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heavy rainfall since Saturday has caused significant river level rises along the Wyong River and its tributaries, which feed into Tuggerah Lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NSW SES confirmed in a flood warning just before 6am this morning (July 6, 2022) that major flooding is occurring along Tuggerah Lake at Long Jetty, where water levels continue to rise slowly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a nervous wait for many residents with Tuggerah Lake at Long Jetty expected to reach near 1.75 metres around midday on Wednesday (July 6, 2022) with major flooding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fortunately for residents along the Wyong River at Wyong Bridge, flooding has eased, where river levels fell below the minor flood level early Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Wyong River at Wyong Bridge Downstream peaked near 2.75 metres around 6pm Tuesday evening and is currently near 2.50 metres and falling slowly (estimated based on nearby upstream gauge).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wyong River levels are below the minor flood level (2.70 metres).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the Wyong River is not quite in the clear yet with further rainfall forecast for Wednesday, which may cause further river level rises and prolonged flooding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The situation around the Tuggerah and Budgewoi Lakes and Wyong River is being closely monitored, and revised predictions will be provided as necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wherever possible, people should go and stay with family or friends, or make other accommodation arrangements. If you are unable to, an evacuation centre has been set up at Diggers at The Entrance – 315 The Entrance Road, The Entrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Multiple roads across the Central Coast remain closed with authorities urging residents to proceed with caution on our roads and delay non-essential travel where they can. You can view the full list of closed roads here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A natural disaster<\/a> has been declared with the Central Coast named among 23 local government areas (LGAs) eligible for Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovering Funding Arrangement (DRFA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The assistance can be used by eligible people whose homes or belongings have been damaged (eligibility criteria apply) and as support for affected councils to help with the costs of cleaning and restoring damaged roads and essential public assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It can also be used as a concessional interest rate loan for small businesses, primary producers and non-profit organisations and freight subsidies for primary producers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The severe weather is set to ease from today according to the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM), with the weather system expected to move north from today.<\/p>\n\n\n
