It\u2019s a nervous wait for many residents around Tuggerah Lake with the lake levels currently steady, but likely to peak at 1.80 metres today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bureau of Meteorology has confirmed overnight that Tuggerah Lake is likely to peak overnight night into this morning (July 7, 2022) at 1.80 metres in some devastating news for local residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) says that heavy rain since Saturday has caused significant river level rises along the Wyong River and its tributaries, which enter Tuggerah Lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Major flooding is occurring along Tuggerah Lake, where water levels at Long Jetty are above the major flood level (1.60 metres) and rising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tuggerah Lake at Long Jetty is likely to peak near 1.80 metres overnight Wednesday into Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along the Wyong River at Wyong Bridge, the river level is below the minor flood level, but small renewed river level rises are occurring during Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further rainfall is occurring during Wednesday evening and is forecast to continue into Thursday, which is likely to cause further river level rises and prolonged flooding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The situation is being closely monitored by the NSW SES and BoM, and revised predictions will be provided as necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wherever possible, people should go and stay with family or friends, or make other accommodation arrangements. If you are unable to, an evacuation centre has been set up at Diggers at The Entrance \u2013 315 The Entrance Road, The Entrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Central Coast Highway at Long Jetty has been impacted this morning with Central Coast Council currently assessing the road for a full or partial road closure due to a rise in floodwaters and tides impacting the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other spots around the Central Coast has been affected with the Pacific Highway closed at Wallarah Creek Bridge in Charmhaven and Budgewoi Road closed between Main Road and Ourringo Street at Budgewoi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Detours are in place for southbound traffic but Council is urging drivers to avoid the area. Authorities are urging local residents to avoid non-essential travel with many roads across the region impacted. You can view the full list of closed roads here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A natural disaster<\/a> has been declared with the Central Coast named among 23 local government areas (LGAs) eligible for Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovering Funding Arrangement (DRFA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The assistance is available from 2pm today (July 7, 2022), with the payments available to eligible people whose homes or belongings have been damaged (eligibility criteria apply) and as support for affected councils to help with the costs of cleaning and restoring damaged roads and essential public assets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It can also be used as a concessional interest rate loan for small businesses, primary producers and non-profit organisations and freight subsidies for primary producers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The severe weather is set to ease from today according to the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM), with the weather system expected to move north from today.<\/p>\n\n\n
