{"id":54233,"date":"2023-03-30T15:20:52","date_gmt":"2023-03-30T04:20:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/?p=54233"},"modified":"2023-03-30T15:20:55","modified_gmt":"2023-03-30T04:20:55","slug":"shake-up-easter-with-this-hot-cross-bun-pull-apart-recipe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/home\/shake-up-easter-with-this-hot-cross-bun-pull-apart-recipe\/","title":{"rendered":"Shake Up Easter With This Hot Cross Bun Pull Apart Recipe"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Pure genius.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s hard to believe\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/home\/spice-up-your-easter-with-aldis-new-hot-cross-bun-gin-liqueur-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Easter<\/a>\u00a0is just over a week away when we\u2019re a) still trying to process that summer is over and b) already four months into 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The upside to time flying by, however, is that we\u2019ve reached the point of the year where it\u2019s socially acceptable to indulge in excessive loads of hot cross buns and of course,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/home\/weve-been-eating-chocolate-wrong-by-putting-it-in-fridge-for-years-and-cadbury-wants-us-to-sort-it-out\/\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"undefined (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">chocolate<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if you\u2019re keen for a lil\u2019 shake up this Easter,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckenziesfoods.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">McKenzie\u2019s Foods<\/a>&nbsp;has put a modern twist on hot cross buns with a Hot Cross Bun Pull Apart recipe.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s everything you\u2019ll need to know about this drool-worthy dish \u2013 which serves 10 people and takes 25 minutes to prep \u2013 in case you were wondering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>4 \u00bc cups (640g) plain flour (bread flour if available)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3 tsp McKenzie\u2019s Bakers Yeast<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd cup (110g) caster sugar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tsp McKenzie\u2019s Mixed Spice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tsp McKenzie\u2019s Ground Cinnamon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd tsp salt<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>50g unsalted butter, melted and cooled<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 \u00bd cups full cream milk (warmed in microwave for 45 seconds)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 egg, room temperature<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 \u00bd cups (210g) sultanas or chocolate chips<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Zest of 2 oranges<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extra \u00bc cup plain flour (if needed for sticky dough)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Syrup:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u00be cup butter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00be cup brown sugar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tsp vanilla extract<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tsp cinnamon<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Instructions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1.&nbsp; Combine flour, yeast, sugar, mixed spice, cinnamon and salt in the bowl of a stand mixer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2.&nbsp; Attach a dough hook in the mixer and add butter, milk, egg, sultanas and orange zest to the flour. Mix until a smooth elastic dough forms about 5 minutes. If dough is sticky and doesn\u2019t come away from the side of the bowl, add another \u00bc cup flour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3.&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>First rise:<\/strong>&nbsp;Leave dough in the bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Place in a warm spot to rise until doubled in size.<strong>*<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. Grease a large Bundt pan with melted butter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5.&nbsp; Remove plastic wrap from the bowl and punch down the dough to deflate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6.&nbsp; Dust work surface with flour and knead for one minute, then cut dough into pieces and roll into golf size balls.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7.&nbsp; Make the syrup by melting the butter and whisking in the sugar, vanilla and cinnamon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8.&nbsp; Roll each ball of dough into the syrup and line them up randomly in the bundt tin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9.&nbsp;&nbsp;<strong>Second rise:<\/strong>&nbsp;let dough in bundt tin sit for another 30 minutes to allow the dough to rise again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10. In the meantime, pre-heat oven to 180\u00b0C. Place the bundt pan in the oven and bake for 30 minutes or until top is a golden brown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>11. Remove from oven and allow to cool for just a few minutes before turning the ring onto a plate to serve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*<strong>Note: this can take anywhere between 1 to 1 \u00bd hours depending on how warm it is.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tip:<\/strong>&nbsp;Best eaten warm and same day. Simply pull off bits of hot cross bun from the ring and enjoy.
