The waterways have been closed until further notice. <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Continuous wet weather on the Central Coast over the last week has wreaked havoc on Terrigal with poor water quality closing popular swimming areas in the suburb.<\/p>\n

Terrigal Beach, the Haven and Terrigal Lagoon were all closed by the Central Coast Council yesterday morning after testing showed high levels of pollution in the water.<\/p>\n

\u201cHeavy rainfall in the Terrigal area yesterday resulted in the opening of the Lagoon which has likely contributed to the poor water quality, however testing show this is not the sole source of the pollution,\u201d the Central Coast Council stated in a Facebook post yesterday.<\/p>\n

The council is advising that swimming or surfing in the area should be avoided until the water quality is deemed to be safe.<\/p>\n

The recent closures adds to a continual problem with pollution in the area with the water quality being rated as \u2018poor\u2019 at Terrigal Beach and \u2018poor\u2019 or \u2018very poor\u2019 at Terrigal Lagoon in the NSW Government Beachwatch survey for almost a decade.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, the Terrigal Haven Supporters Group launched a public campaign to improve the water quality after many complaints of pollution and smelly water in the area.<\/p>\n

The beach will be closed until further notice.<\/p>\n
