Shoppers will be able to get discounts up to 30%.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Coles will soon start selling oddly-shaped and \u2018ugly\u2019 fruit and vegetables at reduced prices in an attempt to reduce the amount of food waste produced by the supermarket.<\/p>\n

The grocery chain announced the initiative \u2018I\u2019m Perfect\u2019 that will see normally discarded \u2018ugly\u2019 fruit sold at a discounted price to shoppers, with trials currently rolling out in Victoria and South Australia.<\/p>\n

Products available under the \u2018I\u2019m Perfect\u2019 program will include one kilo bags of lemons, two-kilo bags of apples, pears, onions, and sweet potatoes, 2.5kg bags of carrots, and three kilo bags of oranges.<\/p>\n

Although Coles is yet to confirm if there will be set discounts on the products, there have been reports of reductions between 10 to 30 percent.<\/p>\n

However, a Coles spokesman said that the products will always be cheaper than their counter parts, with prices lowered on \u2018I\u2019m Perfect\u2019 products when their ordinary counterparts go on sale.<\/p>\n

The move comes five years after Woolworths introduced it\u2019s \u2018ugly\u2019 produce program, \u2018Odd Bunch\u2019, back in 2014. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Despite the lack of an official program until now, Coles has long used strangely shaped produce in many of its own products such as bagged salads, coleslaw and baked goods, and has a national partnership with charity SecondBite, through which it donates unused food to those in need.<\/p>\n
