The Roads and Maritime Service (RMS) has failed to approval half of the roadside collection sites for the Salvation Army\u2019s Red Shield Appeal<\/a>, calling the collections \u2018illegal and dangerous\u2019.<\/p>\n

Last year, there were 18 roadside collection points across the Central Coast region where drivers could donate to the popular fundraiser \u2013 all of which were approved by the RMS. However, only nine locations were given the tick of approval this year due to \u2018safety concerns\u2019.<\/p>\n

Now, the charity is fearing a massive slump in donations, with a Salvation Army spokeswoman telling the Central Coast Express Advocate<\/a><\/em> the appeal was expecting a decline of almost half of last year\u2019s donations.<\/p>\n

It is predicted that the fundraiser will see a drop of around $25,000 in donations\u2013 money which would have been used by the Salvation Army for refuges, homeless shelters, disaster relief, drug rehabilitation, disability programs, and youth centres.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, an RMS spokesman said the safety of the Red Shield volunteers was \u201ca priority\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cAdvice has been offered to the Salvation Army to ensure safer locations are considered for fundraising efforts. These locations include commuter car parks \u2013 an option that has not been taken up,\u201d<\/p>\n

The spokesman went on to say that the popular collection points must meet minimum standards of safety to ensure that all collectors remain safe from passing traffic \u2013 a standard that was not met by the Salvation Army in nine of their eighteen proposed locations.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s illegal, and dangerous, for a collector to stand on a road and seek donations.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Salvation Army spokeswoman said that she hoped the \u201ccommunity would support the appeal at remaining roadside sites and shopping centres.<\/p>\n

The remaining sites include:<\/p>\n

*The Tourist Information Centre, Terrigal Drive, Terrigal<\/p>\n

*Empire Bay Public School, Empire Bay Dr, Empire Bay<\/p>\n

*Near the foreshore reserve, Brisbane Water Drive, Tascott<\/p>\n

*After Cresthaven Ave roundabout, Central Coast Highway, Bateau Bay<\/p>\n

*Bus Bay of Tuggerah Lakes Secondary College, Berkley Road, Berkley Vale<\/p>\n

*Outside The Coastal Bud Florist, Pacific Highway, Kanwal<\/p>\n

*Between Warnervale Road and Pacific Highway roundabouts, Sparks Road, Hamlyn Terrace<\/p>\n

*Bus Bay of Gorokan High School, Goobarabah Ave, Lake Haven<\/p>\n

*Beaurepaires, Pacific Highway, Wyong<\/p>\n
