The removal began in April.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Those looking to get their weekly dose homewares will soon have to remember their own reusable bags with Kmart ditching single-use plastic bags across the state. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Kmart stores across NSW began the process of removing single-use bags from 30th April, with the new 15c and 30c bags spotted at checkouts along with signs explaining the switch.<\/p>\n

Up until April, Kmart was the only major department store operating with single-use bags with Big W and Target moving to 15c bags in July 2018.<\/p>\n

When reusable bags were introduced, Kmart chose not to make the immediate change, instead pledging to remove single-use bags in 2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cReducing the number of plastic bags that end up in landfill each year is one of the key ways we\u2019re minimising our environmental impact. We have committed to removing single-use plastic shopping bags from all our stores across Australia by the end of 2019,\u201d their website reads.<\/p>\n

\u201cWorking in partnership with our customers and by aligning our efforts with local governments, we can make a difference to help protect our precious environment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kmart has already removed bags from states where the single-use plastic bags are banned by the government such as Northern Territory, Tasmania, South Australia, Queensland, Western Australia and Australian Capital Territory, and NSW is the first state where the department store giant has removed the bags voluntarily.<\/p>\n

Shoppers can purchase a medium sized bag for 15c, or a larger bag for 30c.<\/p>\n
