{"id":952,"date":"2019-03-28T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-27T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/uncategorized\/registration-and-licences-introduced-aussies-drones\/"},"modified":"2019-03-28T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-03-27T14:00:00","slug":"registration-and-licences-introduced-aussies-drones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/lifestyle\/registration-and-licences-introduced-aussies-drones\/","title":{"rendered":"Registration and licences introduced for Aussies with drones"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/photo-1501887466182-d2b0b650b465.jpeg\" alt=\"close up photography of gray quadcopter drone\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The new rules are in response to a high number of drone complaints in the last four years.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Aussie drone users will soon have to pay to register their technology, and obtain a mandatory \u201cflyers licence\u201d in order to operate them in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>From July 1st 2019, those with drones weighing over 250g will have to be accredited with the Civil Aviation and Safety Authority (CASA) through an online education course, and will need to pay a registration fee in order to fly it.<\/p>\n<p>It is estimated that registration could cost around $20 per year for recreational drones, and up to $160 a year for commercial drones.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/photo-1504890001746-a9a68eda46e2.jpeg\" alt=\"turned on black quadcopter drone\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The new rules were introduced not only as a safety measure, but also in response to the large number of complaints from residents and business about drones flying around their premises or in public spaces.<\/p>\n<p>CASA spokesman Peter Gibson told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2019-03-27\/drone-licences-to-be-issued-ahead-of-canberra-delivery-service\/10943284?smid=Page%3A+ABC+News-Facebook_Organic&#038;WT.tsrc=Facebook_Organic&#038;sf209986598=1\">ABC<\/a> that the licence and registration would help to solve the problem of un-safe drone flying.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will certainly give us big advantages in terms of complaints or reports of drones being flower improperly or against the safety rules.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll have a starting point to know who flies drones in that area, and what sort of drone they fly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/photo-1473968512647-3e447244af8f.jpeg\" alt=\"drone flying in sky\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Currently, laws dictate that drone operators must not fly more than 120m above the ground, within 30m of people, and must at least 5.5km away from controlled aerodromes.
