Bunnings\u2019 customers have expressed their annoyance over a relatively unknown rule regarding bringing dogs into the store, after one customer and her dogs were removed from a Perth store.<\/p>\n

According to a Facebook status posted in a Perth community group, a customer who visited one of the hardware chains stores in Perth was ordered to remove her dogs from the premises as they were not wearing muzzles.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have to muzzle your dog in Bunnings?! Just because some silly kid didn\u2019t ask permission before touching a dog and got nipped?\u201d the frustrated customer shared on Facebook.<\/p>\n

The muzzle rule was introduced in 2015 after an incident in Melbourne where a five-year-old girl was bitten on the leg inside a Melbourne store. Prior to this, dogs were permitted so long as they were \u201cunder appropriate control, not aggressive and did not compromise anyone\u2019s safety.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 2015 rule is listed on Bunnings website under \u2018Store Entry Information\u2019, and states that pets are permitted if secured safely in a vehicle, on a lead and wearing a muzzle, or being carried.<\/p>\n

Customers are divided over the rule with some customers fighting back against the muzzling, while others state it\u2019s a matter of public safety.<\/p>\n

\u201cDogs are family, if you wouldn\u2019t leave your kids at home then why expect others to leave their furbabies?\u201d one disagreeing customer posted.<\/p>\n

\u201cBunnings need to ensure the public are safe under their roof, so if it means only allowing muzzled dogs inside, I think it\u2019s fair enough,\u201d another commented, defending the rule.<\/p>\n

Bunnings chief operating officier Debbie Poole responded to the outcry, telling news.com.au that the new rules are all about having a \u2018balanced approach\u2019.<\/p>\n

“Tradies have always brought their dogs in the back of utes and trucks into our stores and in 2015, we updated our conditions of entry to allow dogs into our entire store,” Ms Poole said.<\/p>\n

“We understand that there are many differing views on this and after receiving a lot of feedback from customers and our team, we have really tried to use common sense to implement a balanced approach.”<\/p>\n

Poole also responded to some customers questions as to why some stores enforce the rule, while others still permit un-muzzled dogs.<\/p>\n

“While this is used as a guide, each store uses its discretion and always tries to do what’s best for our customers. We encourage customers to speak to their local stores if they have any questions,” she said.<\/p>\n
