{"id":964,"date":"2019-03-24T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-23T14:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/uncategorized\/epic-fig-trees-and-lookouts-hidden-gems-katandra-reserve-central-coast\/"},"modified":"2019-03-24T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2019-03-23T14:00:00","slug":"epic-fig-trees-and-lookouts-hidden-gems-katandra-reserve-central-coast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/lifestyle\/epic-fig-trees-and-lookouts-hidden-gems-katandra-reserve-central-coast\/","title":{"rendered":"Epic fig trees and lookouts: the hidden gems in Katandra Reserve on the Central Coast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/gettyimages-991920650.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Maybe time for a visit?\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>For most of us Coasties, our bushwalks and nature adventures are usually contained within the most well-known areas on the Central Coast.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve all walked to Somersby Falls in Brisbane Water National Park, trekked down to Maitland Bay in Bouddi National Park, and peered out at the horizon at Crackneck Lookout in Wyrrabalong National Park.<\/p>\n<p>But did you know that there\u2019s a section of bushland filled with beautiful hidden gems that many Coasties are yet to explore?<\/p>\n<p>Tucked away near Holgate is the beautiful Katandra Reserve \u2013 a small section of bushland less than five square kilometres filled with bushwalks and photo opportunities.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/2019-03-25_10_03_48-katandra_reserve_on_instagram_photos_and_videos.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Image: Instagram\/@roxannerocheleau<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The reserve has walks ranging from 500m to 7km \u2013 some of which are leisurely strolls along flat ground, and others challenging hikes up sets of stairs and steep inclines.<\/p>\n<p>Toomey\u2019s Walk \u2013 a 2.5km walk (one way) \u2013 ventures through beautiful green rainforest and trickling streams, and journey\u2019s past some of the reserves biggest highlights \u2013 Seymour Pond and the epic fig tree known as \u2018fig on a rock\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Seymour Pond is a beautiful pond surrounded by natural greenery, and is a hub for wildlife to gather with many rare birds perching in trees, and small lizards scurrying along rocks.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cms.star1045.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/2019-03-25_10_00_04-katandra_reserve_on_instagram_photos_and_videos.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Image: Instagram\/@roxannerocheleau<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Venture a little further from Seymour Pond and you\u2019ll find the \u2018fig on a rock\u2019. This towering fig began its life as a seed atop a large boulder, and grew until its roots covered the entire rock overtime.
